Annual Spring Reunion

Every spring, the University of Toronto celebrates its alumni community with a host of events across campus. During this time, FIAA hosts the annual iSchool Spring Reunion, a not-to-be missed event, with delicious refreshments and of course, fabulous company. At the reception, graduates celebrating 25, 50, and 55+ years are recognized, as well as the recipients of the FIAA Outstanding Alumni and Student Awards. This spring, special honoured years are those ending in a '3 or ’8, but all alumni are welcome to attend.

The reunion will be held at the Hart House Debates Room (7 Hart House Circle), on Thursday May 30th, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Learn more about this event.

Ontario Library Association Super Conference Alumni Reception

After a busy day at the annual OLA Super Conference, the largest Canadian library-related gathering, alumni stopped by our OLA Alumni Reception to enjoy some appetizers and drinks, and to catch up with old friends. The venue was packed with fine food and drink, lively conversation, laughter, networking, and fun.

This year's reception took place on Thursday January 31, 2013: 6-8pm at Baton Rouge in downtown Toronto.

For more event details, see the iSchool event post. Visit the OLA Super Conference website for conference details and schedule.

Joint Holiday Social

FIAA celebrated the holiday season at the annual Joint Holiday Social on December 6, 2012. We raised our glasses with friends and colleagues as we toasted 2012. This year, the social was hosted by the Faculty of Information Alumni Association (FIAA), the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Toronto Chapter, the Toronto Special Libraries and Information Services Network (TSLIS), and the Toronto Health Libraries Association (THLA) and was generously sponsored by the following primary sponsors: CEDROM, Access Copyright, OVID, and Dysart & Jones.

For more details, visit the SLA Toronto event post.

"Meet our Alumni Stars" iTea

To greet incoming students and celebrate our unique professions, FIAA hosts a 'Meet our Alumni Stars' iTea.  Alumni are encouraged to volunteer their experience as an 'Alumni Star', offering students the chance to ask questions about an individual's career path. This event has quickly become a popular social event for both students and alumni.  Read more about the 2012 Alumni Stars iTea, which took place on Wednesday September 26, 2012: 5–6:30 p.m. in the Inforum.

Bertha Bassam Lecture

FIAA celebrates the remarkable contributions of Bertha Bassam, Director of the Toronto Library School (1951-1964), by hosting this biannual event, consisting of  a distinguished guest speaker and reception.  The speaker is  selected based on an ability to offer thought-provoking ideas and reflections on the important societal roles of the information and cultural professions, and the current issues and challenges we face.

The most recent lecture featured Dr. David Carr, and was held on April 14, 2011. Read his full speech.
