Career services at the iSchool
Greetings future information professionals! Before you meet me on our first day at the orientation, I would like to tell you about my role and how I assist students at this amazing faculty.
As a Careers Officer, I am here to assist you with all questions related to your career development.
Throughout the year, you will have a chance to learn about the wealth of career choices open to you, writing a resume or CV, interviewing, LinkedIn, portfolios, and all other career topics in a series of workshops. These workshops will provide you with specific examples directly relevant to all students in the MI and MMSt programs.
If you would like to connect with employers, there will be many opportunities to meet them right here. Career panels and networking events are offered monthly in order to provide students with an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, ask questions, and connect for future jobs. The annual Employer Showcase, organized by the Student Council, is yet another chance to speak to many employers in one day.
Through one of the practicum courses, you will gain hands-on experience working on a project directly related to your area of study, which would also boost your resume. Moreover, you will be supervised by an experienced professional, hence growing your professional network too.
Career resources are available to all students in many formats. The job board on our website is one of the main job search resources for many students and alumni. Additionally, the Faculty of Information Alumni Association also organizes career development opportunities, such as the annual Job Shadowing program and Ask an Alum program.
And finally, as a student, if you are putting together your job application or preparing for an internship and need someone to give you feedback, my office is conveniently located in the Inforum and open to all students and alumni by appointment. I look forward to meeting you in September!
Isidora Petrovic, Careers Officer
