Description and duties: 

Description: Markham Public Libraries is recruiting a Branch Manager for Angus Glen Library, currently the largest and busiest of the Town of Markham’s six branches. Angus Glen is part of a major community centre and is a focal point in a new and growing community. It features a warm and welcoming ambience, generous seating for customers, a fully wired environment and a resource collection of 150,000 items. Angus attracts well over half a million customers per year and has become one of the highest circulating public libraries in the Greater Toronto Area. Duties: Reporting to the Director, Service Excellence, the Branch Manager is responsible for overall Branch operations. The Manager recommends new hires and mentors, coaches, and appraises staff in a unionized environment. The Manager enables staff to fully participate in and contribute to the Library’s service delivery goals, priorities and future directions. Assists in the implementation of the Library’s Strategic Plan. Contributes to the Library’s civic role through investments in programs and services that foster vibrant and healthy communities. As the Branch Manager, you are dynamic, resourceful, customer-service oriented, and have strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills. You have excellent written and verbal communications skills. You are innovative and readily share your openness to innovative change with staff and others.

Qualifications: 

Applicants must have the following qualifications: • Masters Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited faculty of Library / Information Science. • Minimum of four (4) years of progressively increased responsibilities in a public library environment that includes training and supervision of staff. • Strong demonstrated commitment to the delivery of quality customer service to both external and internal customers. • Demonstrated ability to mediate and resolve conflict effectively. • Demonstrated ability to exercise effective and appropriate judgment and independent decision-making.
