Head, Fine Arts Library
Reporting to Director of Public Services: oversee operation of Fine Arts Library and Fine Arts Slide Library; work closely with students and faculty in School of Fine Arts/History of Art; provide planning, organization, implementation, and direction of public services for Fine Arts Library and Fine Arts Slide Library; supervise three and one-half support staff members at Fine Arts Library, one librarian and one support staff member at Fine Arts Slide Library; oversee facilities maintenance and library security for Fine Arts Library; develop Libraries' collections in areas of visual arts, art history, architecture, design and related disciplines (including print, electronic media, and artists books); consult and collaborate with faculty and other librarians in purchasing decisions, as needed; review and document gifts from individual donors and IU Art Museum exchange program gifts; provide and oversee reference service for School of Fine Arts' faculty, students, staff, and others; provide library instruction for School of Fine Arts, as well as related classes in Theatre and Drama, African Studies, Department of Apparel Merchandising and Design, School of Education (art education), Art Museum docents, John Waldron Arts Center (book arts), other areas/groups as requested; provide instruction for artists' books collection for classes in School of Fine Arts and other groups as requested; teach each Fall Semester a graduate-level, for-credit course in art history, titled â€œResearch Sources in Art Historyâ€ for School of Fine Arts/History of Art; serve as liaison to Art History faculty and School of Fine Arts [studio] faculty, including attendance at faculty meetings; IU Art Museum curatorial, exhibitions, and special events staff; as well as U Friends of Art.
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; degree in art history, fine arts, or related field; reading or bibliographic knowledge of French, German, or Italian; three or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in an art library or related area; supervisory experience; knowledge of and experience using major electronic and print art reference tools and resources; knowledge of and experience in application of technology to library services; demonstrated teaching skills; collection development, reference and library instruction experience in art, architecture and/or related fields; strong public service orientation; excellent managerial and organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work in collegial, collaborative work environment and maintain positive professional working relationships with faculty members, supervisor, peers, and subordinates; ability to meet responsibilities of a tenure-track appointment. Preferred: Advanced degree in art history, fine arts, or related field.
Salary and rank negotiable and competitive, depending on qualifications and experience; tenure-track academic appointment that includes eligibility for sabbatical leaves; benefits include university health care plan, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity plan, group life insurance, liberal vacation and sick leave.
