Each month, from September to April, one or more career development topics will be discussed in a career workshop. These career development workshops are offered to all MI & MMSt students.

Learn about various formats, strong vs. weak content, and the difference between a resume and a CV. Get tips on how to quickly and effectively tailor your resume for each position. See examples of successful resumes and learn the tools that you can use throughout your entire career.
Why do you need a cover letter? What is the difference between a cover letter and a resume? How do you tailor it for each position? See examples of successful cover letters and learn how to write them effectively.
How to Network
If you are reluctant about networking or you just want to check if you are doing all you can, come to this workshop and practice networking.
How to prepare for a job interview? What are the typical questions? Come to learn how to effectively answer interview questions.
LinkedIn & Portfolio
Do you need a LinkedIn profile? How do you create one and what do you do with it? What is your professional online presence? Come to talk about the importance of these tools for your career.

Associations as Your Gateway to Networking

BIG EVENT! This is the 6th annual associations networking event, which is a unique opportunity to talk to information and museum professionals, including Managers and Directors of museums, libraries, archives, health institutions, law firms, and more. Come to learn how associations can assist you in your career development. All iSchool MI and MMSt students are invited.

To get advice on career decisions, you can book individual consultations with the Careers Officer, to discuss career topics ranging from planning your career, to writing resumes and preparing for interviews. All sessions are confidential. No information is shared with any members of the Faculty of Information, or anyone else, except by written request of the student, or as required by law. Appointments are available during the week, and can be booked with the Careers Officer.

This event is organized by the Master of Information Student Council. It is usually held in January, and attracts a variety of organizations, from libraries to hospitals, institutes, government organizations and more.
